Approach
- Mission-driven: A clear understanding of an organization’s mission must be the foundation of all its efforts.
- Inclusive: Staff, Board members, constituents, investors, and the community are essential stakeholders who must be engaged in the process. Public input does not mean the community must invest hours in it. More efficient and effective ways exist for them to share their ideas and experiences.
- Participatory: Organizational development is an opportunity for fun, learning, and engagement.
- Flexible: There is no one way to do anything. Each organization is unique. Each phase of the design or planning process must inform the next steps. Also, as designs are implemented, all (including myself) should be open to learning from mistakes and adjusting strategies to achieve the desired outcome for the community.
- Practical: All programs and plans must be connected to a strategic plan. The organization’s strategic goals must be front of mind. The organization should live its mission through its actions.
- Outcome-focused: An organization’s efforts must begin with a clear understanding of the organization’s missions and goals. Goals need to be measurable and meaningful to the community.
